Hey, I used to play APB a bit a while back, and still do on occasion, and thought I'd post and ask in the forums before doing it myself. The other day, I was playing a game with the ENB series shaders, and the idea crossed my mind that it might work with APB. And, it did!

APB_ENB_comparison.jpg

Before I started using it, however, I wanted to ask if using something like this could constitute as cheating. I have heard that graphical mods, as long as they don't affect anyone besides me, and not in a negative way (making it easier for myself to score points), are fair game. Is that the case with this?

How would making everything blurry give you an advantage? 0_0

It's actually the movement of your focus, from foreground to background. It's easier to see if its in action in front of you. Should I prepare a video? The framerate will be rather poor, as FRAPS has a habit of doing that to my computer, but it may demonstate more clearly what I am doing.

I recommend asking this question at the server forums at http://forums.mp-gaming.com/
Rules, in terms of allowance, are discussed over there.

Nicely done !

The only problem with this is that it makes the menu blurry and hard to read...

Thank you! If I'm given the go-ahead to use this for online play, I had intended to make some modifications to make it optimal for APB usage. Menu readability was on the top of the list of "Things to fix," along with improved frame rate, as some features are completely useless, and draw otherwise valuable system resources.

I don't see it as a 'cheat', however be sure you get it cleared up. It's very possible the current anti cheat system considers it a cheat and bans you for it.

It will detect modified directx files and bans for it? That's.........strange.

@op
Its nice however the Occlusion kills my system..
But then again the rest of the stuff is useless/only makes the screen darker..IMHO.

The motion blur is nice though :D

Its nice overall what boris has done but looks better in games like GTA SA (where I got full occlusion/blur/reflection to work out amazingly)
Didn't know it worked for apb till this topic anyways.

Will look forward to the "optimal for APB usage" (:

Thanks for all the positive feedback! The system is still being checked for allowability, but I'm going to continue work on my end, until a definite answer is given. I may upload a new video, clearly showcasing the difference between APB and APB: HDR.

Definitely looks awesome, but im afraid with my current system that kind of awesome would never be playable on this crap-pie laptop. Hopefully here soon i can snag a job and put some money away for a actual gaming computer.

Is there some signifigance to the individual who posted that? Although I see what he means, I have also been toying with this to make it look far better. At least I have a new goal to work towards.

Well, if the fans want more bloom.....

:p
Seriously though, should I add more bloom? Not this much, as it looks awful on most maps, but perhaps more than I used in the showcase video?

Stock APB used to have bloom, and believe me it didn't look good.

Is that a compliment, or a warning? I think I can make it look good with time and adjustment, I just need.... time to..... tweak and.... make adjustments.

Well, if the fans want more bloom.....

This would be sick to rig up as a screen effect after someone lights off a demo truck, akin to World in Conflict. Very nice job with all of this. Me gusta.

I think, but I am not sure, that Tiberian Technologies was going to develop fancy shaders at some point, with no need of affecting everything on your screen, you know, like a real post-processing shader would do.

Anyway, no, God, don't put more bloom.

I dislike the blurry and washed out appearance that bloom emits, so my post was more of a "warning." It looks like smeared watercolors.

I've been trying to avoid that. As I said, with time, and feedback, I can probably get to a nice happy medium.
And now, some more screenshots on Bonzai. I've decreased the bloom, although it may still be a tad much.

First without Bloom:

And now with Bloom:

I soon hope to get confirmation on being allowed to actually use this online, which will allow some gameplay screenshots to be taken, and a release to be assembled.

All in good spirit: If you want your game to look better, I highly recommend enabling anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. :D

Okay, New Screenshots!

First, original game, without ENB enabled:
enb2011_4_1_21_37_45.jpg
enb2011_4_1_21_55_9.jpg

Then the ENB enabled shots:
enb2011_4_1_21_37_39.jpg
enb2011_4_1_21_49_40.jpg

Once again, sorry for the quality of the original shots these were based upon, I have removed them.

The neon sky is a bit ridiculous, maybe you should do it without any bloom.

Why don't you add a blur over the whole screen after you fire a high velocity projectile, like the V2 or artillery. Anything else is just pointless for APB IMO.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm currently trying to balence the bloom so it's noticeable, but without a neon colored sky, or a blizzard-like environment. Also, I'll look into that blur effect. Not sure how much I can do. I'm going to get into contact with Mr. Vorentsov, the guy who created this, so I may be able to optimize a little further.
