Updated 4/19/12

Greetings,

I have successfully made a mac version of the latest APB 2.1.1

So far there are no issues, this includes the lancher and introductory movies.

Enjoy!

How to use this

If you are accustomed at all on how to install applications in MacOSX, it is rather simple as it is made to look like any other MacOSX application. Should run on any intel mac with OSX 10.5 or newer.

Step 1
Mount DMG

Step 2
Copy "Red Alert - A Path Beyond 2.1.1 Gamma.app" to your Hard Drive anywhere you like.

Step 3

Double click application to launch. This will launch the apblauncher from which you can configure as necessary. It should behave just like it does in windows.

Thats it

Latest Version ~809 MB

http://dl.dropbox.co...2.1.1 Gamma.dmg - Direct download
ModDB: RA:APB 2.1.1 Mac Client - May not be available yet

Note: As updated versions become available they will retain full compatibility with RA:APB 2.1.1 of course; all that varies is the wrapper and any quirks

Water is still broken. Looks neon green/yellow/red. I'd take a screenshot, but there is no print screen button on Mac.

yes there is, cmd- shift -3 will create a full picture file and put it on the desktop, or cmd-shift-4 will let you take your own with the mouse. Still, damn I forogot to check off d3d hardware accelleration, if its doing that. Thought I did but must have been the wrong file. Guess I need to reupload. :(

I tried Cmd Shift 3, knowing that's the usual Mac shortcut, but it didn't work. Alt tab also didn't work, so I was unable to check without exiting the game.

yup thats what I did, grr.

to fix this yourself

Right click on the APB app and select "Open contents"
Then copy this into the root folder.
http://dl.dropbox.co...48/Wineskin.zip

then launch it
select "advanced Options" in the dialog
go to the tools tab
press Config Utility (winecfg)
go to graphics tab
and under Direct3d uncheck "Allow Pixel Shader"
press apply

(not hardware accelleration was wrong there ;) )

I followed your instructions and now everything is black: the main menu, the loading screen, everything ingame. I can still walk around, hear sounds, and see the HUD, but nothing is rendering.

I know it's technically Cmd Tab, but I call it Alt Tab because that's the term to which I am accustomed.

woah, you're right! damn, that was the old fix. I guess the new changes to 2.1.1 need the pixel shaders. I guess it's the new anti aliasing thing. Might work if you turned that off. hmm, newer versions of wine work just fine, and don't have that option, however I'm having some very strange difficulty with the mouse which I have not been able to fix. I suppose I'll pull it for a while till I figure out a work around.

yup it works if you turn off anti aliasing. but that's no good.

If you can dl wineskin from
wineskin.doh123.com (whoops got url reversed.) and just play around with the new 1.4 engines would be fantastic
needs, gecko, directmusic, and flash11 from winetricks to get the game running. (easy to do from the wineskin gui) The 2.1.1 installer already includes other needed libraries. (great job team btw) but you get an issue with the mouse which always points down, and rotates at a million miles an hour. And I don't know how to fix this.

I'm not sure, but i think that disabling pixel shader also disabled S3TC, and .dds textures are black now.

directmusic, and flash11

I think the game will run fine without these.

nope, i read the crash reports needs direct music, and yes the game will run fine with out flash11 but then you lack your videos in the launcher ;) You must remember I'm running the game from wine, which may not be a complete windows environment.

gecko is a replacement for IE so you get your news updated as well

If anyone knows of any mouse related issues from a windows stand point please let me know!

hey you are right about directmusic. Was there a change made recently? or more likely a change was made winewise since before. Fine by me, in anycase.

I've seen the issue, and, as far as i can tell, it is with older wine versions, unfortionatly the fix doesn't work with the new antialiasing. So I'm going to wait till I can get the latest wine versions to work.

If you turn off FXAA and if you set "shader detail" to the lowest setting, it shouldn't be using pixel or vertex shaders.

yah, it will work then, but i think it would be best if we could use them all the same. else you will get a whole bunch of mac people asking why they are getting black screens in certian situations. Shouldn't be too long 1.12 of the x.org server was just released, and I can message doh123. so we will see soon if thats the problem with the mouse. It's timing with when i fist started noticing the issue is about right.

Hey evreyone, sorry for thoes of you were confused. I pulled it because there was an issue with pixel shaders in older versions of wine, and i was waiting for a fix in wineskin to fix the mouse issues in newer versions. Turns out it was the xinput2 that must be disabled when compiling. So here it is again!
unfortionatly movies are unstable. Makes me wonder why bother including flash if this will be the case. might as well disable it next time. but, the game itself works fine. Currently using the 2.5.5 beta v2. with wine 1.5.1 and xinput2 disabled

Enjoy!

Well apparently it's back to nuclear irradiated glowing water, in wine, and I have no clue how to fix it. :( hope you all don't mind terribly. I'll keep an eye out for a fix.

Ok here it is again, this time without flash as that was rather useless, and just gummed up the works. For those who already downloaded it, this doesn't add anything.

Oh yes I know, and would but if you click on a video it crashes wine. There were more stable crossover based wrappers that handled it better, but they had the mouse problem. and i don't know how to compile them with no xinput2.
